It featured a\u00a0<strong>two-day technical conference for engineers and software developers<\/strong>, a drone\u00a0<strong>business conference<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0<strong>conference for commercial drone<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cbuyers and flyers\u201d in more than a dozen vertical market segments.\u00a0<strong>3,500+ attendees from 50+ nations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dronenodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/interdrone_map.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dronenodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/interdrone_map.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1536\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>It was very\u00a0exciting week at this year\u2019s\u00a0<strong>InterDrone<\/strong>. My original reason for going was to see what\u2019s new in the\u00a0<strong>Mapping and LiDAR realm<\/strong>.\u00a0As an engineer, the\u00a0<strong>photogrammetry<\/strong>\u00a0we get from the that\u00a0<strong>\u201cHoly Grail\u201d for topographical surveying<\/strong>, multicopter than can last for at least 30 minutes and carry the smallest but best\u00a0<strong>LiDAR fe<\/strong><strong>at<\/strong>, but after going to the International&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lidarmap.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LiDAR convention in Denver<\/a>&nbsp;this past February to InterDrone 2016 this past week the&nbsp;<strong>prices are starting to come down noticeably<\/strong>. My second reason for attending was to see if I could find a really small drone with at least&nbsp;<strong>20MP sensor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I found out is that it\u2019s not happening on anything small and cheap. I did find a few\u00a0<strong>cute 14MP drones<\/strong>\u00a0that might be better than what\u2019s currently available. So still looking for both solutions. But over the week I did see a bunch of new cool drones and accessories that will make you pull out your CC and spend away.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dronenodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dronenodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1446\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Now as we all know the word or I should say number of the week was 107 as in\u00a0<strong>FAA Part 107<\/strong>. To start things off, we got to hear from the head of the FAA Michael Huerta talk about this 107 and how they project the total Part 107 holders to pass the actual amount of Part 61 holders (Pilots) soon if not within a year.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Michael P. Huerta, Administrator of FAA, InterDrone 2016 Keynote\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TjpGm3MrbqQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>More importantly, shortly after his speech, they opened up the&nbsp;<strong>Commercial Exhibitor Room (CER)<\/strong>. I\u2019m not sure about everyone else, but this was a madhouse like the next iDevice being released at an Apple Store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below you will see picture after picture of new and not-so-new tech. This was by far the best CER I have seen in a long time. We had a huge range of exhibits; from over\u00a0<strong>55 lb(25 kg) drones<\/strong>, to tiny ones that fit in your shirt pocket. We had\u00a0<strong>Part 107 study courses<\/strong>, we had\u00a0<strong>hydrogen fuel cells<\/strong>, we had\u00a0<strong>LiDAR<\/strong>, we had\u00a0<strong>Infrared<\/strong>, we even had a guy selling electric back massagers. We also had cases from&nbsp;<strong>Pelican<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Nanuk<\/strong>. One of the coolest booths I found that probably completely sold out of goods was&nbsp;<strong>Hoodman\u2019s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the amazing new things was only partially designed for the drone world and came from of all companies\u00a0<strong>EPSON<\/strong>, yes the printer company. The very last item below will be by far the biggest game-changer for all of us and not just the drone industry.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dronenodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/yuneec_intel_real_sense.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dronenodes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/yuneec_intel_real_sense.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1444\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>As for the classes, there was&nbsp;<strong>something for everyone.<\/strong>&nbsp;I\u2019m not going to bore you with the details, but there were a few classes that I did learn a thing or two about. Some dove a bit too much into the basics, and I was looking for the&nbsp;<strong>advanced specifications<\/strong>. I\u2019m not going to cover much if any of the actual classes. The lists can be found on their&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.interdrone.com\/classes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">webpage<\/a>&nbsp;if you are curious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t have the time nor the electrons to talk about every single picture I took this week. So I\u2019ll post them all but talk about a few. Main app they showed us would display on the screen the&nbsp;<strong>current location<\/strong>&nbsp;in the sky where your drone is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So if it was not where you were looking but say to the far right, it would\u00a0<strong>show a pointer to lead you there<\/strong>. As you moved your head the\u00a0<strong>pointer would update<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And once it was in view it would display a large drone icon where you drone was. I see this as being a big help since the new Part 107 doesn\u2019t require you to have a spotter now,&nbsp;<strong>this would in essence be your spotter<\/strong>&nbsp;to help you go from the display on your controller and then back to where&nbsp;your drone was in the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also had a\u00a0<strong>camera for augmented Reality<\/strong>, don\u2019t ask me what that really means to a drone!
